Mobile web performance will be the new SEO in 2017

The transition to mobile continues. However, we still come across event organisations that are taken by astonishment by this long-term trend. One organisation we spoke to said that last year they had examined their customers and they said were uncertain about mobile. This year those same organisations are commanding it.

On mobile, screens are small, bandwidth is limited and processors are slow. So performance matters: 48% of customers expect page loads in under a second. But site performance is usually ignored by designers and service owners. Our research with Google this year showed that in the Event sector the average load speed was 5.4secs (Google views anything over 4 seconds to be a ‘critical’ rating).

In 2017, if you don’t have a mobile web performance project in place then you endanger slipping down Google’s rankings. And with many big organisations recognising that mobile web performance matters, you may find it hard to recapture lost territory.
